Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Raman,

I hope you are doing well.

I’m writing this letter to express my viewpoint regarding your confusion about whether to select college or enter in workforce.

In my view point you should prefer work as compared to college. Since you will not enjoy college life. Because mostly they teach us while using technology so it’s better if you want to learn anything you can search online everywhere is present. Even you do not need to spend time on assignments or other activities.

Apart from that I will suggest to do work, if we can start working now then in future you become financially stable and manage your expenses easily. Moreover, as your family conditions are not good then you should work and help your family to earn bread and butter.

There are many jobs available online where you can apply and get desired job opportunities. And you can also start searching in hotel industry as you already have study before regarding hospitality. So I think this field suits you best and you can earn good amount of money.

If you have any another question then feel free to contact me again through email or call, I will definitely help you, I look forward for your response.

Yours faithfully,

Lovie

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly state your preference for working over college, explain why college might not be enjoyable, and provide specific suggestions for employment in the hospitality sector. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure your arguments are more fully developed; for instance, the explanation regarding why college is not enjoyable is somewhat simplistic. Expanding on the benefits of practical experience versus theoretical study would strengthen your position and demonstrate a more sophisticated approach to the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Apart from that', 'Moreover', and 'In my view point'. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting sentences with 'Because' or 'Even'. The flow between ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this field') is consistently precise will help improve the overall flow and coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financially stable', 'hospitality', and 'workforce'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'enter in workforce' (should be 'enter the workforce') and 'earn bread and butter' (which is a slightly misused idiom here). You also rely on some repetitive phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid informal or slightly unnatural expressions. Expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific synonyms would help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'In my view point' (should be 'In my view' or 'From my perspective'), 'as you already have study before' (should be 'as you have already studied'), and 'any another question' (should be 'any other question'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with sentence fragments and missing articles. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
