Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rahul,

I hope you are doing well. I just received your message about an advice to make a decision of get into a job or to going college.

I would say at this time of your life after the completion of your studies at school, you should try a job as it would give you a different and fresh experience to start your career early.

According to my experience, you would hardly or never find a group bond that we had and all of our friends are now indulged in the process of going abroad, so going college will surely not a fun anymore for you.

As you are taking my advice, as per my suggestion, a job of a music teacher would be the best one or any type of art related job is your type because I believe you are a born artist and know artistry in depth.

I hope my words would be helpful for you and I love to see you soon this weekend.

Take care,

Zorawar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why college might not be enjoyable, why a job is a good idea, and suggesting suitable roles. Your position is clear and consistent throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why college would not be fun is a bit vague, relying on the assumption that friends are going abroad. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed reasoning or personal context to make your arguments more persuasive and fully developed. Overall, the task is fulfilled, but the depth of the content could be improved.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter follows a logical structure, with each paragraph addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'According to my experience' and 'As you are taking my advice' to link ideas. However, the transitions between sentences can feel a bit mechanical, and some sentences are slightly disjointed. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas flows more naturally from one point to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'indulged', 'artistry', and 'completion'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'an advice' (advice is uncountable), 'get into a job', and 'going college' (missing the preposition 'to'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a lack of precision. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'decision of get into a job', 'going college will surely not a fun', and 'I love to see you soon'. These errors relate to verb forms, prepositions, and sentence construction. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these slips prevents the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex structures are grammatically sound.
