Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Jasleen,

Hii , how are you ? I have received your letter and I'm happy you want ta take advice from me.

I know you have done your bachelor degree in Business Management and I think you should get experience in this field. You wouldn't enjoy your college because most of the students leave college and explore job opportunities and you can't enjoy your college without your friends.

Getting a good job is better for your future. You can gain experience in your field as well as can pay your expenses by own, you don't need depend on your parents. Even if you have experience in business management then you can get higher package in future.

According to me you should try in Multinational Companies and IT companies because they always require Business Management candidate and you can apply for Human Resource position. If you want you can apply in banking sector. There are lot of opportunities and will gain experience.

I hope you would like my suggestions.

Best wishes,

Jagjit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all three bullet points of the task: explaining why college might not be enjoyable, the benefits of working, and suggesting suitable job types. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the reason provided for why the friend would not enjoy college—that friends are leaving—is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, the ideas could be expanded with more depth or personal reflection. The position is clear throughout, and the response successfully fulfills the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Even if', 'According to me', and 'However', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. The use of referencing (e.g., 'this field', 'these companies') helps maintain flow, although the overall structure could benefit from a more sophisticated range of linking words to improve the naturalness of the connections between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their message clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'Business Management', 'Multinational Companies', and 'Human Resource position'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'higher package' (usually 'higher salary' or 'better remuneration') and 'pay your expenses by own' (should be 'on your own'). The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate effectively but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'you want ta take' (informal spelling), 'done your bachelor degree' (should be 'completed'), and 'you don't need depend' (should be 'need to depend'). There are also minor punctuation and article errors throughout the text. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, and the writing would benefit from more careful proofreading.
