Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Simran,
I hope you are doing great. I received your letter about your upcoming plans. It is hard to decide between learning something new from academics or start earning with your existing skills. After considering all the aspects, I believe that getting a job is a great option for you.
In my opinion, going to college is not all about books, its about your friends, tutors and environment as well. A good learner needs a motivation, co-operative circle as well. We learned so many skills from our institution that can help you to get a well-paid profession. You can develop your practical skills with your occupation. Building a career is also essential with learning. It will help you to be financially stable in your life.
As you have passion for technology, you can apply for the positions in IT, Software and hardware making companies. Your expertise will help you to acheive your targets in life. I hope you will think about it and let me know if you need any help from me about anything.
Take care
Sukh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state your position that your friend should choose a job over college. You explain why college might not be enjoyable by mentioning the need for motivation and a supportive environment, and you provide specific suggestions for IT-related roles. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why college might not be suitable for the friend is a bit vague and could have been more focused on the specific drawbacks of academic study compared to the benefits of work. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'After considering all the aspects' and 'In my opinion,' to link your ideas. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and the transition between the discussion of college and the suggestion of jobs could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financially stable,' 'expertise,' and 'co-operative circle.' There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'start earning with your existing skills' (which would be more natural as 'start earning using your existing skills') and 'acheive' (a spelling error). While you successfully communicate your message, the vocabulary is generally functional rather than sophisticated. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Overall, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without any significant impediment to the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'It is hard to decide between learning something new from academics or start earning with your existing skills.' There are some grammatical slips, such as 'A good learner needs a motivation' (should be 'needs motivation') and 'its about your friends' (should be 'it's'). While these errors are present, they do not impede communication. Your control over punctuation is generally good, though there are occasional lapses. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as well as varying your sentence structures further to demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility.
