Student answer (Band 9.0)
Dear Kishan,
It was great to hear from you, and I’m really glad you reached out. It sounds like you’ve got a massive decision on your plates, but if you want my honest takeaway on the whole college versus work dilemma, I strongly reckon you should skip higher education for now and jump straight into a job.
To be completely straight with you, I really don't think you’d enjoy college life. You’ve always been someone who thrives on action, and the thought of you trapped in a lecture hall for hours listening to dry, theoretical concepts makes me yawn just thinking about it. Higher education involves an endless grind of writing long essays, cramming for academic exams, and stressing over deadlines. Knowing how much you hate sitting still and being micromanaged by teachers, you’d likely find the whole environment incredibly suffocating and boring.
On the flip side, getting a job right now is a fantastic move for you. For starters, earning your own paycheck will give you an immediate taste of financial freedom and independence. Instead of burying yourself under a mountain of student debt, you'll actually be building a savings account. More importantly, you'll be gaining genuine, real-world experience. Workplaces teach practical skills—like professional networking, problem-solving under pressure, and time management—that a textbook simply cannot replicate.
Given your energetic personality and your incredible knack for persuading people, I think you’d absolutely crush it in a fast-paced sales or digital marketing role. Alternatively, because you are so good with hands-on, practical tasks, you might want to look into a trainee position or an apprenticeship in IT support or graphic design. These types of roles will let you learn on the job, keep you active, and offer a clear pathway to move up the ladder quickly.
At the end of the day, you can always go to college later if you change your mind, but getting your foot in the door of the workforce now will give you a massive head start. Let's grab a coffee this weekend to chat through this properly.
Take care,
Alex
