Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state why college might not be enjoyable, explain the benefits of working, and suggest a specific field (accountancy). However, the development of these points is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of why college might be unenjoyable is phrased as a question rather than a direct statement of opinion, which weakens the persuasive tone. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended with more detailed reasoning rather than just stating the points briefly. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent informal register throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moving further', 'Moreover', and 'So', which help connect your ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural in context. Additionally, the transition between the opening and the main body could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format, and the overall progression of ideas is clear enough to be understood without difficulty, though the flow could be improved with more varied linking phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'accountancy' and 'independent'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'mature thinking to life' and 'good package annually', which sound slightly unnatural. There are also minor errors in capitalization and punctuation that affect the professional appearance of the text. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and idiomatic expressions that are natural in English correspondence, and pay closer attention to word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Its been a while have not met' (missing subject 'I'), 'not sure to decide' (should be 'not sure whether to decide'), and 'get ready yourself' (should be 'get yourself ready'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization after commas. These errors do not prevent communication, but they are frequent enough to keep the score in the mid-range. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and sentence structure will help improve your accuracy.
