Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Peter,
I am writing this letter to give you an advice on seeking a job rather than taking admission in a college for further studies.
Although I fully understand that joining any company right after your high school may seems stressful, I certainly believe that it would be a great decision for a long run. The prominent reason behind this suggestion is that colleges are mainly relying on theoretical work, which often becoming challenging to understand, especially without any practical implications.
Therefore, getting a job not only will gives you a practical approach to concepts, but will also foster your thinking ability to handle any situation more logically. In addition, considering doing a job will contribute to your personality development alongside gaining valuable experience and skillset for professional growth.
I strongly recommend you considering option like Lab assistant or Pharmacy assistant as they offers job roles for beginners. Alternatively you may plan to explore further in your field by joining some pharmaceutical companies that combines both biology and chemistry in one field, hence you a wider field to learn.
Please let me know if you need any assistance in applying for jobs.
Best regards,
Tim Smith

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why college might not be suitable, provided a logical argument for choosing work, and offered specific job suggestions. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent, helpful perspective throughout. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the opening paragraph. To reach a higher band, ensure that the explanation of why college is 'challenging' is more specific to the friend's situation rather than a general statement about theoretical work, which would add more depth to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Therefore', 'In addition', and 'Alternatively' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points requested in the prompt. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the reader can easily follow your line of reasoning. To improve further, try to vary your cohesive devices slightly more to avoid a somewhat formulaic structure, ensuring that the flow between sentences feels even more natural and less mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'practical implications', 'foster your thinking ability', and 'personality development' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'taking admission in a college' (should be 'enrolling in college') and 'considering doing a job' (should be 'considering getting a job'). While these do not impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and idiomatic expressions would enhance your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'may seems' (should be 'may seem'), 'will gives' (should be 'will give'), and 'they offers' (should be 'they offer'). These are subject-verb agreement errors that occur frequently. While your meaning is always clear, these persistent errors indicate a lack of full control over complex structures. To improve, pay closer attention to verb forms and subject-verb agreement during your final proofreading phase.
