Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mohit,

I hope you are doing well. Yesterday I received your letter in which you mentioned you are confused either to get a job or do further study. I would like to suggest that a job would be the best option for you.

If you join a college then you will not get time to do part-time job. As mostly courses classes are from Monday to Saturday. So you will have only Sunday left to complete your tasks.

Furthermore, Job would be better choice for you. Since you have completed master degree in accounts so if you choose higher study then you have to pay huge sum of fees. and need to do at least three years study which would not suitable for you. You mention that your financial background not strong so job would be great option for you.

As, you have a master degree in accounts so you will get a job in multinational companies because they always have shortage of accountants. They also give good package of salary.

I hope you would consider my suggestion. If you need any other further information regarding this feel free to contact me.

Warm regards,

Jag

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You provided a clear reason why college might not be enjoyable, explained the financial and practical benefits of working, and suggested a specific career path in accounting. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully developed; for instance, you could elaborate on the specific skills or personal growth gained from working in a multinational company compared to the academic environment. Overall, the position is clear and the response is well-focused on the prompt requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct point, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore' and 'As', though the transition between ideas could be smoother. At times, the connection between sentences feels slightly mechanical. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that pronouns and referencing are used more precisely to connect ideas across sentences. The overall progression of the letter is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'multinational companies' and 'financial background'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'do further study' (should be 'pursue further study') and 'good package of salary' (should be 'competitive salary package'). You also have some minor grammatical errors affecting word forms, such as 'master degree' instead of 'master's degree'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology to express your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'If you join a college then you will not get time' (the 'then' is unnecessary), 'As mostly courses classes are' (incorrect word order), and 'your financial background not strong' (missing verb 'is'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and sentence fragments. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly to avoid fragments.
