Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mark,
I received the letter from you, hope you are doing well and enjoying your wonderful time after finishing school with your parents. Also you mentioned in the letter and seeking the help, about whether to go college or try to get a job as a next career step. In my opinion, it is a good time to get a job rather go to college and spend extra fours to complete the study.
I am quite sure you will not like going to college because the one of best college from your home is far away and if you opt going as a daily comminutor and will be very hectic on daily basis. Other reason as your mom recently recovered from a serious medical back injury and she need more household assistance and you need to take care of her on regular back exercise's as well.
So it will be a good idea if you can do a job in your home town so that you can support her of daily needs of house chores and also while doing can be a financial help as well for medical treatment. Also it will be a good experience and will a get a good experience in early career as well.
I was visiting last month your home and on way I have noticed that a big ware house just opened and saw a hoarding of jobs and they need fresh new job as supervisor and a store keeper and it will be a good opportunity to start this as a early career job.
I will be in touch and hope will get some good news soon from you.
Warm regards,
Michael

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task prompt well. You clearly stated why Mark would not enjoy college, mentioning the long distance and daily commuting fatigue. You also explained why getting a job is beneficial, citing the need to support his mother due to her medical back injury and the financial help it would provide. Furthermore, you suggested suitable types of jobs, specifically pointing out a warehouse supervisor and a storekeeper role. Your tone is appropriately friendly and consistent throughout the letter. The ideas are well developed and directly respond to the task requirements, showing a clear purpose and fulfilling the communicative goals effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter has a clear logical organization and progression throughout. You used appropriate paragraphing to separate different ideas, such as introducing the topic in the first paragraph, discussing college drawbacks and family reasons in the second, explaining the benefits of a local job in the third, and suggesting specific positions in the fourth. Cohesive devices like 'Also', 'Other reason', and 'So' are used, although some referencing and transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive ('Also it will be...'). Overall, the information is easy to follow and the letter reads smoothly as an informal correspondence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task with some attempts at less common items such as 'comminutor', 'household assistance', 'hoarding', and 'financial help'. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'comminutor' instead of commuter, 'medical back injury', and 'ware house'. Despite these occasional lexical and spelling errors, your meaning remains clear and communication is not impeded. To achieve a higher band score, focus on precise word collocation and correct spelling of everyday and semi-formal terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. There are, however, several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'hope you are doing well' missing a subject pronoun ('I hope'), 'whether to go college' missing a preposition ('to go to college'), 'opt going' instead of 'opt to go', and 'she need' instead of 'she needs'. Punctuation and sentence structures sometimes become tangled, such as in the opening run-on sentence. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict your grammar score to the mid-band range.
