Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt to some extent, as it touches on why college might not be enjoyable, why getting a job is better, and suggests a car mechanic workshop. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and the tone is somewhat informal and conversational rather than maintaining a consistent letter format. Crucially, the text is significantly under-length, containing only 124 words against the required 150-word minimum. This results in a clear penalty under the task achievement criteria as parts of the letter are not fully expanded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The entire response is written as a single, continuous run-on sentence without any paragraph breaks or appropriate punctuation like full stops. Words like 'so' and 'and' are overused repetitively to string clauses together (e.g., 'so you can start... and you can also give... and in future...'). This lack of structural control and punctuation severely impacts the overall coherence, making the text difficult to follow despite the logical progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, relying on everyday words such as 'good', 'job', and 'start'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'latter' instead of 'letter', 'intrest' instead of 'interest', 'reparing' instead of 'repairing', and 'machanic' instead of 'mechanic'. The range is limited and minimally adequate for communication, but these frequent lexical errors strain the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammar is characterized by a complete absence of sentences, as the entire submission is a single long run-on sentence joined by coordinating conjunctions. There is no use of complex grammatical structures or appropriate punctuation, and capitalization is missing at the beginning of the text and for proper nouns like 'yash'. Frequent errors in sentence structure and punctuation impede readability and pull the score down into the lower band.
