Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Jasreet,
I hope you're doing well. It's been ages since we last caught up. last monday, I recevied a letter from you in which you asked for me a adivce.
In this day and age, schools and colleges are very bored because they cannot provide proper educations facilities as well as lack of extracricular acitivies. I vivdly remember that you recently pass Master's degree from University of Lethbridge and you don't need furthure education.
According to my prespective, you should apply for the accountant position since you post graduate in accounting degree you easy hire in higer position.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response covers some parts of the prompt, mentioning why college might not be ideal and suggesting a job, but it fails to adequately develop all bullet points. Specifically, the suggestion regarding types of jobs is extremely limited, only mentioning an accountant position. Furthermore, the length check confirms the response is only 99 words, which falls significantly short of the 150-word minimum requirement. This under-length issue heavily restricts the development of ideas. Therefore, the task is only partially addressed, leading to a band score of 4.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter opens with a standard greeting, and some logical sequencing is attempted through phrases like 'In this day and age' and 'According to my prespective'. However, the paragraphing is underdeveloped, and the overall progression feels disjointed due to the brevity of the text. Cohesive devices are used minimally and somewhat mechanically, for example, transitioning abruptly from college complaints to job recommendations. While the layout is recognizable as a letter, the weak organization and limited structural progression align closely with a band 5.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several noticeable errors that impact precision. For instance, the student writes 'schools and colleges are very bored' instead of 'boring', and uses terms like 'educations facilities', 'extracricular acitivies', and 'furthure education'. There are also spelling mistakes such as 'recevied', 'adivce', 'vivdly', and 'prespective'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic message about career choices, the frequency of lexical and spelling errors restricts the score to a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple and flawed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'you recently pass Master's degree' (missing auxiliary/tense issues), 'you post graduate in accounting degree' (severe structural breakdown), and 'you easy hire in higer position' (incorrect voice and missing prepositions). These errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. Because the majority of sentences contain noticeable structural or inflectional errors, the grammar fits the band 4.5 level.
