Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Monika,
I hope you are doing well. I received your letter in which you mentional that you are skeptical, whether your should continue your study or start applying for a job. I would recommend you should apply for a job. I know yuou want to do masters degree in english literature but i am also aware about the finacial situation of your family. Your family will not be able to bear the expenses of your study.
I know this will be difficult decision for you but believe me, according to situation this is the best decision. You can wrok for two to three years and collect funds for your masters degree. Moreover you will be able to support your family financially . By that time your younger brother will also complete his study, so you will get some extra help.
Your have already done bachelor's in english literature. You can easily apply for the job of a teacher in school. You love teaching since the scholls days and that job will have fixed hours, so you will have enough time to have rest at home. Moreover, you have your naphew and niece, so you already know how to handle kids. Let me know if you need any other help for me.
Looking forward for your response.
yours faithfully,
Neha

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points of the task instructions. You clearly addressed why your friend might not enjoy or be able to afford college by pointing out the financial situation of her family. You also explained why getting a job is a good idea, suggesting she work for two to three years to collect funds for her master's degree while her younger brother finishes his studies. Furthermore, you suggested a suitable type of job as a teacher in a school, referencing her bachelor's degree in English literature and her experience with children. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout, meeting the requirements of a General Training letter. All parts of the prompt are well-developed and clear.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear logical organization with paragraphing used appropriately to separate different points, such as the financial advice, the work plan, and the job suggestions. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, with connectors like 'Moreover' and 'By that time'. However, there are minor issues with referencing and linking, such as the abrupt transition in the third paragraph and some punctuation errors around paragraphs and sign-offs. Overall progression is clear throughout, and the letter reads naturally as correspondence between friends.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'financial situation', 'master's degree', 'english literature', and 'support your family financially'. There are some spelling and lexical errors, such as 'mentional' instead of 'mentioned', 'yuou' instead of 'you', 'finacial' instead of 'financial', 'wrok' instead of 'work', 'scholls' instead of 'school', and 'naphew' instead of 'nephew'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, and you attempt some less common phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I received your letter in which you mentioned that you are skeptical, whether your should continue your study or start applying for a job.' There are some grammatical and punctuation errors, including 'whether your should' instead of 'whether you should', missing articles ('bear the expenses of your study'), and incorrect capitalization or punctuation near the sign-off ('yours faithfully,' instead of 'Yours faithfully,'). However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the majority of sentences are understandable.
