Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Raman,
I hope you are doing well.
I am really glad that you asking for advise about whether to go to college or to try to find a job.
In my opinion, getting a job is more beneficial because you can start earning after school, which can be benficial to fulfill your desires. Moreover, going college may not be enjoyable because nowadays every company hire those candidated, who have practical knowledge than theorotical knowledge.
having job is very good idea to start earning in early age. People who have jobs after school, are more become more stronger candidates for well paid jobs. They can also gain the industrial knowledge in early stage of their lives, which can be beneficial for future aspects.
You have to find job in music industry because you have vast interest in this field and would be enjoyable for you.
I hope you will understand evrything, if you need anything let me know.
Best wishes,
Vishal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. You addressed why Raman might not enjoy going to college by noting that companies prefer practical over theoretical knowledge. You explained why getting a job is beneficial, mentioning early earnings and career progression, and you appropriately suggested a job in the music industry based on his interests. The tone is suitably informal for a friend. However, the ideas could be slightly better extended with more specific supporting details to reach a higher band. Overall, the communication of the message is clear, satisfying the core requirements of this task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from greeting to conclusion. Paragraphing is used, though some paragraphs are quite short or repetitive in structure (such as starting consecutive sentences with similar ideas). Cohesive devices are employed adequately using words like 'Moreover' and 'which', but referencing and linking could be smoother to avoid choppy transitions. For instance, the transition between discussing the job market and the music industry is quite abrupt. Overall organisation is clear enough for the reader to follow without difficulty, placing this firmly in the competent range.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempted some less common vocabulary items such as 'practical knowledge', 'industrial knowledge', and 'beneficial'. However, there are notable spelling and word-form errors that detract from the writing, including 'advise' instead of 'advice', 'benficial', 'candidated', 'theorotical', 'having job' (article omission), 'more become more stronger', and 'evrything'. While the vocabulary used is adequate to convey your message regarding the choice between college and employment, these frequent lexical and spelling inaccuracies limit the score to a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as relative clauses ('who have practical knowledge than theorotical knowledge'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'you asking' (missing auxiliary verb), 'going college' (missing preposition), 'every company hire' (subject-verb agreement error), 'candidated', and 'in early stage' (article omission). Additionally, phrases like 'more become more stronger' demonstrate awkward grammar and control issues. Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear, and communication is rarely impeded, which aligns well with the descriptors for Band 5.5.
