Dear Alex,

It was great to hear from you. I’ve been thinking about your question about whether you should go to college or look for a job, and I honestly think getting some work experience would suit you better at this stage.

Knowing you, I don’t think you would particularly enjoy college because you have always preferred practical activities to sitting in lectures and studying from textbooks. You also enjoy meeting people and working on real-life tasks rather than completing assignments and taking exams.

Getting a job would allow you to earn money while gaining valuable experience and developing skills that could benefit your future career. You could also discover what type of work you really enjoy before deciding whether further education is necessary.

I think you would be well suited to a customer service position, such as working in a hotel, restaurant or retail store. Alternatively, you could try an administrative job, as you are organised and good at communicating with people.
