Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hi Sarah,

Hope you are doing well!

I am writing in response to suggest advice regarding your options to be considered for your future. I would suggest that to you search for a new job opportunity rather than get admission to college.

As per my opinion, you may find quite boring to go to college and study therotical subject after a long time. Also, you have to struggle to find a part -time job as a student. So, it will be difficult for you to survive and manage your day to day expenses.

By finding employment opportunity can help you to ehnace your practical skills and boost your confidence as earliest. If you will gain the experience in industry soon,it will be beneficial to mention in CV for your future.

I would like you to give suggestion for some roles and positions that you have to be consider as a priority. Mainly you have to search for entry level postions with minimum education requirement for ex, Entry level software developer or technical support representative.

I hope that you will find my opinion helpful and essay to follow.

See you soo.

Lots of love,

Prarthana

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt in a natural, friendly tone appropriate for a general task. You addressed the first bullet point by explaining why Sarah might not enjoy college, mentioning that studying theoretical subjects after a long time would be boring and financially stressful. You covered the second point by highlighting how a job builds practical skills and confidence, and you fulfilled the third point by suggesting specific entry-level roles such as a software developer or technical support representative. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, maintaining a clear purpose throughout the letter, which corresponds well to the Band 7 level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical progression from an introductory greeting to the core advice, followed by specific job suggestions and a warm sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the drawbacks of college versus the benefits of employment. Cohesive devices like 'As per my opinion', 'Also', and 'So' are utilised, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive ('By finding employment opportunity...'). Nonetheless, the overall arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, aligning closely with a Band 6.5 or 7 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common phrases such as 'entry level positions', 'practical skills', and 'technical support representative'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'therotical' instead of theoretical, 'ehnace' instead of enhance, and 'essay' instead of easy. Additionally, some phrasing is slightly awkward, such as 'suggest advice regarding your options to be considered'. These vocabulary inaccuracies and minor spelling slips place your lexical performance firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The letter shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If you will gain the experience...'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are noticeable errors, such as 'By finding employment opportunity can help' (incorrect subject-verb structure), 'as earliest' instead of as early as possible, and 'If you will gain' (future tense instead of present in a first conditional clause). Despite these errors, they do not impede communication, and the overall meaning remains clear to the reader, matching the Band 6 descriptors.
