Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear gloria,
Hope you are doing well. I lately received a letter from your side, questioning about whether to get a job or enroll in a college program. In my opinion, you should get a job as it would be much more beneficial for you for long term.
I feel that academic lectures, assignments, group projects and assignments would put a lot of pressure on you.
However, if you choose to get a job, it will make you financially indipendent. Also, you will be able to improve your communication skills, team work and confidence.
I think you should look for management positions at banks as you are good in communicatio, negotiation and organizing things.
kind regard

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers all parts of the prompt to some extent, but the ideas are underdeveloped. You successfully state why college might not be enjoyable by mentioning that 'academic lectures, assignments, group projects and assignments would put a lot of pressure on you.' You also explain why getting a job is beneficial by noting financial independence and skill improvement, and you suggest suitable roles like 'management positions at banks.' However, because the response is under-length at 117 words (falling short of the 150-word minimum requirement), the development of your ideas is limited. To achieve a higher band score, you must expand on each bullet point with more details, examples, or explanations to meet the word count and fully develop your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a generally clear layout with appropriate opening and closing salutations, such as 'Dear gloria,' and 'kind regard'. The organisation of ideas is logical, moving from the response to her letter, to the advice against college, the benefits of work, and finally specific job suggestions. Paragraphing is used, though some paragraphs consist of only a single sentence. Cohesive devices are minimal, with words like 'However' and 'Also' used to link thoughts. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the text would benefit from a wider and more flexible range of cohesive ties and better-developed paragraphs to guide the reader smoothly through the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'financially independent' (spelled 'indipendent') and 'negotiation'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors ('lately' instead of recently, 'indipendent', 'communicatio', 'regard') and minor collocation flaws like 'good in communicatio' instead of 'good at communication'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited due to the short length of the text. To improve lexical resource, you should focus on accurate spelling, broader lexical choices, and appropriate prepositions associated with adjectives.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'In my opinion, you should get a job as it would be much more beneficial for you for long term.' There are several grammatical errors and omissions, including 'questioning about whether' (asking whether), 'for long term' (for the long term), and missing articles or plural forms. Punctuation is also slightly flawed, particularly with lowercase letters at the start of names and sign-offs. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and does not severely impede communication. Working on sentence variety and proofreading for minor structural slips will help raise this score.
