Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Riyaz,
I hope you are doing well! It has been a very long time we have not seen each other. I recieved your letter couple days ago and I am so happy and I feel very good. I see that you are confused about getting into college or to get a job.
I think you should get a job brother, Because I think the current degree will be enough to get you placed in a good job. You completed bachelor's and now you want to go for the master's. I understand what you are thinking, but trust me you won't be having a really good time there. Getting job is more important rather than going to college for next 2 years just to get a fancy degree. Getting job from now at a good firm will get you good experience and a kick start for your career.
I would suggest you to get into my friend's company for now. Since they are hiring freshers for the programmatic and SSP operations. I want you to start your career in digital marketing and ad campains. Because the future is in social media marketing and networking. This is the most important platform now-a-days. I hope you understand what and why I am suggesting you.
Best regards,
Nousheer

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all parts of the task by giving reasons why Riyaz would not enjoy college, explaining why a job is better, and suggesting specific types of work. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, your explanation of why he would not enjoy college is slightly brief, relying on the general statement that he will not have a really good time there, rather than exploring specific drawbacks of studying a master's degree in depth. The position is clear throughout, and the letter format and friendly tone are maintained well, but deeper extension of your main arguments is needed to move to a higher level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter shows a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from greeting to advice, reasons, suggestions, and sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as grouping the advice against college together and placing the job suggestions in their own paragraph. While the response achieves this solid level, cohesion is sometimes a little mechanical, seen in repetitive sentence openings and basic referencing like 'Because the future is...' and 'This is the most important platform'. To reach the next level, you could use a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices to link ideas more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and industry-specific terms such as 'programmatic', 'SSP operations', and 'digital marketing and ad campains'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'recieved' instead of received, 'couple days' instead of a couple of days, and 'campains' instead of campaigns. While these minor slips do not impede communication, you need greater precision and consistent accuracy in spelling and collocation to achieve a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like subordinate clauses in sentences such as 'Since they are hiring freshers for the programmatic and SSP operations.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as sentence fragments and awkward phrasing in 'It has been a very long time we have not seen each other' and starting sentences with 'Because'. Nonetheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. To improve further, you should aim for greater control over complex sentence patterns and punctuation consistency.
