Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Kiran,
I hope you are doing well! It's been so long we haven't seen each other. I have recieved your letter couple of days ago and I am very happy to see your letter. So, I see your concern here. You are confused about whether to go college or to get a job. If you ask my suggestion from these two options, I would recommend you to go find a job. You already got a bachelor's degree, and you are planning to go abroad for the master's for your higher studies. And i think thats not a good idea.
You won't be having a good time in college Kiran. Because, right now you can get a job on your bachelor's. Going to college for master's will only increase your expenses overall and difficult to manage your bills. You won't bae able to concentrate on your studies while worrying about your debts and bills. Getting a job now is very important for you. because if you start your career at a good multinational company, within the couple of years you will be having good expirience and good exposure to work culture where you will eventually end up coming to.
I have some suggestions for you to get a job suitable based on your education. There is a company named Mediamint where my friend is in HR department. I can get an referral from him to you. I hope you understand my point and willing to see you soon.
Best regards,
Nousheer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the task. You adopted a clear personal tone suited to a friend, advising Kiran against further college and recommending employment instead. You provided reasons why college might not be enjoyable, explained the financial and practical benefits of getting a job now, and suggested specific types of jobs or a networking opportunity at Mediamint. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed or general, such as the explanation regarding the work culture and the specific industries best suited for him. To move to a higher band, you would need to extend and fully support all your arguments with richer detail and clearer explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for a personal correspondence. You opened with a friendly greeting, organized the body paragraphs around your main recommendations, and closed with a warm sign-off. Cohesive devices are used adequately, but referencing and linking can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' and 'because' at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'And i think thats not a good idea' and 'Because, right now you can get a job'). Paragraphing is generally clear, though paragraph boundaries and transitions could be managed more smoothly to achieve a fully natural flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'multinational company' and 'work culture'. However, there are notable spelling, word-choice, and word-form errors that reflect a limited and developing lexical range. For instance, 'recieved' is misspelled, 'couple of days ago' misses a definite article, and 'get an referral' contains an article error. Additionally, phrases like 'go college' lack the necessary preposition. These lexical slips and minor inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band score where greater precision and stylistic awareness are required.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and dependent clause attempts ('If you ask my suggestion...', '...because if you start your career...'). You demonstrated reasonable control over basic sentence patterns, but there are some recurring grammatical and punctuation errors. Examples include tense inconsistency ('It's been so long we haven't seen each other' instead of 'since we haven't seen'), fragment sentences starting with subordinating conjunctions ('Because, right now...', 'And i think...'), and missing capitalization on the pronoun 'I'. These errors rarely impede communication, but their presence points to the need for greater control and accuracy in complex structures.
