Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt by explaining why college might not be enjoyable, why getting a job is beneficial, and suggesting suitable types of work such as customer service and hospitality. The position is clear throughout. However, some ideas show features of partial development; for example, the explanation regarding theoretical subjects is somewhat repetitive, and the mention of increasing production is slightly underdeveloped. This places the task response in the band territory where all parts are addressed, but certain aspects lack deeper elaboration. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to extend every main idea with more specific details or examples rather than moving quickly between points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear opening and closing, and each body paragraph addresses a distinct bullet point from the prompt. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'To begin with' and 'First of all' are somewhat redundant when used in close proximity, and referencing is not always clear, such as in the sentence starting with 'You could essential skills both communication'. Cohesive devices are present but lack flexibility. To improve, the writer should ensure smoother transitions between sentences and employ a wider, more natural variety of organizational links to guide the reader seamlessly through the argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended message about career choices and workplace skills. The writer makes attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'financially independent', 'hands-on skills', and 'hospitality', which shows an effort to expand lexical range. However, there are noticeable word-choice, word-form, and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'response' instead of 'respond', 'advise' instead of 'advice', 'pursure', 'retailer stores', 'appling', 'position', 'provides', and 'greate'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a level where vocabulary control is inconsistent. To progress, the writer must focus on correct word forms, accurate collocations, and careful proofreading to eliminate spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'getting job a would be better', 'gave never been', 'You often suffered not only concentrate on theoretical subjects but also practical activities', 'starting job', 'essential skills both communication', and 'impacts on the your overall job perfomance'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the overall meaning of the text. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures, ensuring accurate verb patterns, articles, and prepositions without frequent slips.
