Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Jaivik,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I received your letter about a decision to choose between study and job. I think, you should try to get a job because you would not enjoy going to college. I have heard that you are a good web developer and loves to design. College are more focused on theoratical than practical assessments, and I know how much you hate studying theory. Hence, getting a job would be good for you, and joining a college would be a waste of time for you.
Everyone know that the AI is booming and taking most of automated jobs. However, you can take benefits from the AI and build something new. There is a new job emerging out named as Gen AI developer and this would be suitable for you. In this job, you just have to use AI to build websites.
If you need more information about it, don't hesitate to contact me, and convey my regards to your family.
Best wishes,
Sam Mistry

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all requirements of the prompt by explaining why your friend would not enjoy going to college, arguing why getting a job is beneficial, and suggesting a suitable job as a Gen AI developer. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed, which prevents a higher score. For instance, the explanation of why college focuses too much on theory could be extended with more specific examples regarding your friend's design background. Additionally, the transition between discussing general job market trends and suggesting the specific role could be smoother to fully satisfy the higher band requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear, overall logical arrangement with a recognizable beginning, middle paragraphs addressing specific bullet points, and a friendly sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different points, such as the critique of college versus the recommendation of a job. However, cohesion sometimes feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, particularly in how sentences are linked with basic connectors like 'Hence' and 'However'. Furthermore, referencing could be improved to make the flow of ideas smoother between sentences, occasionally making the progression feel slightly disjointed rather than naturally unified throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate vocabulary is deployed to complete the task, utilizing domain-relevant terms such as 'web developer', 'practical assessments', and 'Gen AI developer'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, though these are accompanied by some word-choice and word-form errors that slightly hinder precision. For example, writing 'loves to design' after mentioning 'a good web developer' introduces a minor subject-verb agreement slip within a relative clause, and 'theoratical' contains a spelling error. Phrases like 'take benefits from' are also slightly unnatural compared to standard collocations such as 'benefit from'. These minor inaccuracies do not impede overall communication but restrict the range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully incorporating conditional and compound structures such as 'If you need more information about it, don't hesitate to contact me'. There are, however, some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, writing 'College are more focused' exhibits a subject-verb agreement error with an uncountable noun, and 'Everyone know that the AI is booming' misses a plural or agreement marker on the verb alongside an unnecessary definite article before 'AI'. Punctuation around introductory phrases also occasionally misses a comma. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication.
