Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ram,
I hope this letter finds you in a good health. I have been thinking about your letter to enroll in college or to get a job.
I believe getting a job is the best option for you as you will get hands on training there. Also, you can earn good sallery for your future. College is in more structual and controlled environment which is not a right fit for your personality.
Therefore, landing in right job is suitable option for you. As you can try in different fields which matches your interests.
In my opinion, you should try your hands in role of makeup artist because of your passion towards fashion industry. Apart from this, you can also go in teaching profession.
I hope this letter will helps you to give right guidance for your future ahead. I am open to discuss further about your comments on above guidance.
Yours true friend,
Simran.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you recommend that Ram work rather than attend college, and you address all three requested points. You explain that college’s “structured and controlled environment” may not suit his personality, give practical benefits such as hands-on training and earning money, and suggest makeup artistry and teaching. This covers the task well, with some relevant personalisation through his interest in fashion. However, the reasons are not equally developed: the explanation of why he would dislike college is brief, and the job suggestions would be more convincing if you explained what skills or qualities make each suitable. The response already shows a clear, relevant direction; extending these points with specific examples would make the advice more fully supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from an opening to your recommendation, reasons, job suggestions, and a closing. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “Therefore,” and “Apart from this” make the sequence easy to follow. However, some connections feel mechanical or unclear. “Therefore” introduces a point that largely repeats the recommendation, while “As you can try in different fields” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. The final sentence about discussing “your comments on above guidance” is also difficult to follow. Use clearer links between each reason and the advice that follows, and make references such as “this” or “above guidance” more specific.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “hands-on training,” “personality,” “interests,” and “fashion industry,” and the reader can understand your main advice. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “landing in right job” and “try your hands,” but these are not natural collocations in this context. Spelling and word-form errors, including “sallery” and “structual,” reduce accuracy, while “good” and “right” are repeated rather generally. Aim for more precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully. For example, you could describe a job as “a suitable career path” and say that Ram could “gain practical experience” rather than relying on less accurate expressions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate your main ideas using a mix of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “as you will get hands on training there” and “because of your passion towards fashion industry.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. Examples include “in a good health” (the article is unnecessary), “which matches your interests” (the verb should agree with plural “fields”), and “this letter will helps” (use the base form after “will”). The sentence beginning “As you can try…” is also incomplete as written. Work on article use, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence construction, while continuing to practise linking clauses accurately.
