Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Isha,

How are you doing? I heard you are having some doubts about whether to work or to start college. To be frank, I really think you should try to get this marketing job.

I know you alway wanted to work at this company, and now you have cleared the interview you should really look forward to working there. It is your dream job after all.

You already have the qualifications that are required for the job, you have completed your bachelor's in marketing with good grades, and doing master's for the same and starting studies seems like you are wasting your time when this fine opportunity has arrived.

Also, you mentioned last time that you have to pay some loans, and it is a good win-win situation. After all, if you really want to pursue your master's you can always continue your studies while working alongside.

Well, I really think that you should give it a try, and see what can happen.just let me know once you decide, you know where to find me.

Yours faithfully,

Disha.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you recommend that Isha accept the marketing job, and you give relevant reasons, including that it is her dream role, she has suitable qualifications, and she needs to repay loans. However, the task asks you to explain why she would not enjoy college and to suggest suitable types of work. These points are only partly addressed: saying that further study would be “wasting your time” does not explain what she might dislike about college, and you focus on one specific job rather than suggesting job types. The option of studying while working is relevant, but the main reasons and job suggestions need fuller development. Address each bullet directly with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally coherent sequence: you introduce the decision, explain the appeal of the job, mention her qualifications and loans, and finish with encouragement. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and linking phrases such as “After all” and “Also” guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth, however. The paragraph about qualifications combines several ideas in one long sentence, while “Also” introduces the loan point without clearly showing how it supports the recommendation. The final sentence also runs together after “what can happen.” Use clearer sentence boundaries and organise the body around the task’s three points so the progression feels more deliberate.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including relevant terms such as “qualifications,” “marketing,” “opportunity,” and “pursue.” The tone is mostly personal and supportive, and phrases such as “dream job” make your advice easy to understand. Some choices are imprecise or awkward: “a good win-win situation” is unclear in this context, and “starting studies seems like you are wasting your time” is not a natural way to express the idea. “Alway” is also a spelling error. Aim for more precise collocations and a wider range of language for discussing career benefits, such as gaining experience, earning an income, or developing professional skills.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including the conditional idea “if you really want to pursue your master's you can always continue your studies while working alongside.” Most sentences communicate your meaning clearly, and the reader can follow the advice. Some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. In “you have cleared the interview you should really look forward,” two clauses are joined without suitable punctuation or a conjunction. The sentence beginning “You already have the qualifications” also joins independent ideas with commas. In addition, “what can happen.just let me know” needs a capital letter and sentence break. Review comma splices, sentence boundaries, and punctuation around longer sentences to make your writing more controlled.
