Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Joy, I hope you are doing well and are in good health. I am writing to advise you that you should try to get a job. I believe that workplace experience would improve your skills and confidence. However, college can be a convenient place but because of the monotonous subject you may not enjoy it. Professional work environment would help you to recognise your interest and select your career path. Moreover, it will provide you a practical experience that will leads you to become a successful person in the future. This experience will also help you in your higher studies. I would reccommend you should apply for marketing relevant positions such as sales professional, report writing, marketing and analysis and many more. I would provide you with some references. Please feel free to connect me if you need any suggestion or assistance to acquire a job. Take care and give my regards to your family! Lots of love, Reena

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter clearly recommends getting a job and addresses all three requested points. You explain that college may not suit Joy because of “monotonous subject[s],” give reasons to work—gaining practical experience, confidence and insight into career interests—and suggest marketing-related roles. The offer to provide references also makes the advice personal and relevant. The ideas are generally extended, particularly the link between workplace experience and choosing a career path, though the explanation of why Joy would dislike college is brief and somewhat general. To strengthen the response further, connect that point more specifically to Joy’s interests or circumstances, and explain why the suggested roles match her abilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The message follows a sensible overall order: it introduces the recommendation, explains the benefits of work, then gives job suggestions and closes warmly. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Moreover” help show relationships between ideas, and the friendly opening and sign-off suit the purpose. However, the body is presented as a dense block, so the shift from reasons for working to suitable jobs is not clearly marked. Some connections also feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “This experience” and “Moreover.” Use separate paragraphs for the college concern, benefits of employment, and job suggestions, and vary referencing so each link between ideas is clear and natural.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for giving advice, including “workplace experience,” “career path,” “practical experience,” and “references.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is appropriately friendly. There are also attempts at more formal or specific language, but some combinations are inaccurate or unnatural: “monotonous subject,” “marketing relevant positions,” and “report writing, marketing and analysis” do not express the intended job categories clearly. “Reccommend” is also misspelled. Aim for more natural collocations and precise job titles—for example, “boring subjects,” “marketing-related roles,” and “sales assistant or market research assistant.” This would make the advice sound clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The letter includes both simple and more complex sentence forms, such as “I believe that workplace experience would improve your skills and confidence” and the clause beginning “because.” Most meaning remains clear, and the advice is easy to follow. Some grammatical errors remain, however: “Professional work environment” needs an article, “it will provide you a practical experience” has an incorrect pattern and article, and “will leads” uses the wrong verb form after “will.” The sentence “I would reccommend you should apply” also combines structures awkwardly. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy. Practise article use and verb patterns, such as “will provide you with practical experience” and “I recommend that you apply.”
