Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Preet,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing to assistance about you have to get job instead to go to college.
I know that it is importance for you attend class but i think nowadays teachers just focus on book material rather then doing any practical work. According to my perspective you need to do practical work that helps a lot in real work experience.
I am thinking that you have to try for job because if you will do job then it helps for you to get enough earning. Owing to this, you will not only become independent but also helps to you in the future expenses. You can learn a various things like, how to coordinate, time work, time management and many more other things.
There are number of jobs that is suits for you. I know that you have good communication skill. Because of this skill you will get many jobs like trading job, costumer care service and childcare service.
Thank you for time and consideration. I hope you will consider my advice as positive aspects. I miss you so much and I hope we will meet soon.
Lots of love,
Ramanpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requested points and maintains a clear recommendation to seek work rather than attend college. You explain that college may feel too focused on books and not practical enough, and you connect employment with earning money, independence and useful experience. The suggestions of customer care and childcare are relevant to the friend’s communication skills. This meets the task well, while some ideas remain general or are not fully explained: for example, the reason the friend personally would not enjoy college is inferred from teaching methods rather than linked to their interests, and “trading job” is not clarified. To strengthen the response, develop these points with a specific example and explain why each suggested role suits Preet.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall structure: an opening, separate paragraphs for the college argument, benefits of work and job suggestions, followed by an appropriate closing. This makes the main progression easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “Owing to this,” “not only…but also,” and “Because of this” help connect ideas, although some connections sound mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. For instance, the move from practical experience to the claim that Preet should get a job could be made more explicit, and the list of skills in the employment paragraph is crowded. Use clearer transitions and group related benefits together; this would make the progression more natural and the paragraphing more purposeful.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main advice, with relevant terms such as “practical work,” “independent,” “time management,” and “communication skill.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make parts less natural or briefly unclear. Examples include “writing to assistance,” “enough earning,” “time work,” “trading job,” and “costumer care service.” Some expressions are also repetitive, particularly “job” and “things.” Aim to learn common combinations such as “gain practical experience,” “earn a steady income,” and “customer service,” and check spelling and word forms. More precise vocabulary would make the advice sound clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure (“if you will do job then…”) and the paired construction “not only…but also.” The intended meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles, prepositions and sentence construction. For example, “it is importance for you attend class” needs a different adjective and an infinitive marker, while “There are number of jobs that is suits for you” has problems with the article, agreement and verb form. The conditional would be more natural as “if you get a job, you will…”. Practise accurate sentence patterns and proofread each clause for subject–verb agreement and missing grammatical words; this will improve control while preserving your attempts at complex structures.
