Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mohit,
Hope you are doing well, I am also well. I am writing this to advice you on taking a relevent job rather than going back to studies. From perspective you will gather more knowledge on hands on experience then in the classrooms. And pesonally you will not like to do tons of assignment work and deadlines end exams that will stress you out.
I personally believe that you working in your field will give you better real life experince that any of this college can provide you. By the time you finish couple of years on a job you will become more familier with how to get a job done that any of this institution can ever teach you.
As far as i know you like constuction much more than anything else, you sholud aim for getting a job in construction this summer or as an intern or in a entry level role is way beneficial for you.
I hope you will consider my suggestion and i wish you the best for you future.
Yours faithfully,
Bhavin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and make your recommendation clear: you advise Mohit to work rather than return to study. You explain that classroom assignments and exams may cause stress, and that practical experience could help him learn more about his field. You also suggest construction work, including an internship or entry-level role. These are relevant, personalised ideas. However, the reasons are not equally developed: the explanation of why college would not suit him is brief, and the job benefits are stated generally rather than supported with a specific example. The construction suggestion is also quite broad. More detail about his interests or the kinds of construction duties he might enjoy would make the advice more fully developed and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: you open with the purpose, explain your view, give a job suggestion, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main ideas, and phrases such as “I personally believe” and “As far as I know” guide the reader through your advice. This gives the response a coherent progression. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. For example, “From perspective” does not clearly connect the recommendation to the explanation, and the transition from the benefits of work to construction could be more explicit. The opening sentence also joins two complete thoughts with only a comma. Use clearer linking phrases and ensure each paragraph develops one point in a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the situation, including “hands on experience,” “deadlines,” “entry level role,” and “construction,” so your meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “real life experience.” However, the range is limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors reduce accuracy: “advice” is used where the verb “advise” is needed, while “relevent,” “pesonally,” “experince,” and “familier” are misspelled. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “tons of assignment work and deadlines end exams” and “any of this college.” Aim for accurate collocations and vary the language used to describe practical skills, workplace learning, and academic demands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “you will not like to do tons of assignment work” and a time clause beginning “By the time you finish.” The main message remains understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors occur in several sentence patterns. For example, “Hope you are doing well, I am also well” joins two independent clauses with a comma, while “From perspective” lacks a determiner and “you working in your field” needs a clearer subject construction. In “By the time you finish couple of years on a job,” the time expression is not grammatically formed. Practise complete sentence boundaries, articles, and clause structure, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
