Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Simran,
How's everything going?I hope you are doing well.It was lovely to get your letter.I am happy to hear that you are thinking about your future. I would like to give you advice whether you choose a college or job.
In my opinion, It is good opportunity for you to apply for a job. I know you do not enjoy studing. Colleges require efforts, time and hard which would be hard for you to manage all things.
Getting a jon is a great opportunity for you. You become independent and earn money to secure your future. You can also develop some skills like teamwork, cooperation. You can also boost your confidence.
I think you have to apply for customer service in local stores. It might be interesting job for you because you enjoy talking with other people. Either you could apply in a restaurant or in sales company . I hope my advice will help you to make right decision. I wish you best of luck in your future. Take care and give my best regards to your family.
Yours lovely,
Arshdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and make your recommendation clear: you advise Simran to work rather than attend college. The reason that college may not suit her is linked to her dislike of studying and the demands of time and effort. You also explain benefits of employment, including independence, income and skill development, and suggest customer service, restaurant or sales work, with a relevant link to her enjoyment of talking to people. These details make the advice personal and appropriate. Some points are still quite general—for example, you could explain more specifically how a particular job would match her interests or future plans. The letter has a suitable friendly opening and closing; developing the supporting reasons further would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear overall order: you introduce the advice, explain why college may not suit Simran, describe the advantages of work, and then suggest suitable jobs. Paragraphing helps separate these main points, and phrases such as “In my opinion” and “I think” guide the reader through your recommendation. The ideas are generally easy to follow, although some linking is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “You can also.” The transition from the benefits of work to the job suggestions could be smoother, and the final sentence combines several closing ideas. Use a wider range of natural links and make sure punctuation separates sentences clearly to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including relevant terms such as “independent,” “teamwork,” “cooperation” and “confidence.” The job suggestions are also specific enough to suit the task. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “studing” and “jon” should be corrected, while “apply for customer service” is not a natural collocation. Some expressions are vague or awkward, such as “hard and hard” and “make right decision.” The range is adequate for this familiar topic, but several phrases rely on basic wording or repetition. Aim to learn common collocations for education and employment, and proofread spelling and word forms so your meaning sounds more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
Your letter includes mostly straightforward sentences and some attempts to combine ideas, such as “Colleges require efforts, time and hard which would be hard for you to manage all things.” The main message remains understandable, but there are several errors in sentence construction, articles and punctuation. For example, “It is good opportunity” needs an article, and “because you enjoy talking with other people” would be clearer as part of a complete, well-punctuated sentence. There are also missing spaces after full stops and an unnecessary capital in “In my opinion, It.” Try using a controlled mix of simple and complex sentences, checking articles and sentence boundaries, and revising awkward clauses before sending the letter.
