Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Amardeep,

I received your letter and I am glad you asked my advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. In my opinion, you need to get a job beacuse you had not interest in the academic studies in school time, and for that reason I think you would not enjoy going to college.

Job is good for you and you can earn money and increase your financially candition. You can help your father and reduce the stress from his mind. You can save money and with the help of your saving, you can open your own bussiness in fews years.

I belived you need to go in customer support and sales, or an office environment. This roles and office environment help you to improve your communication and you also know the office culture and you will gain the good experience.

I hope my advice will help you and now you can take desicion.

Best regards,

Amit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a clear recommendation to seek work. You explain that college may not suit your friend because he had little interest in academic study, and you give relevant benefits of employment, including earning money, helping his father and saving towards a business. Customer support, sales and office work are suitable suggestions. These ideas meet the task well, but some are only briefly explained: for example, you could connect your friend’s interests or strengths to the suggested roles, and clarify why college would be unenjoyable beyond his past lack of interest. The advice is relevant and purposeful, though fuller support and development would make it more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens by referring to your friend’s question, then discusses college, the benefits of work and suitable jobs, before closing politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these separate points, and links such as “for that reason” and “with the help of” show attempts to connect ideas. Some connections are mechanical or unclear, however. The transition from earning money to helping his father and then opening a business could be made more explicit, while “This roles and office environment” does not clearly refer back to the job options. Use more precise referencing and vary the links between ideas to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including relevant terms such as “academic studies,” “customer support,” “sales” and “office culture.” There are also attempts to express financial and career benefits. However, noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors reduce precision, as in “beacuse,” “financially candition,” “bussiness” and “in fews years.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “you need to go in customer support” and “gain the good experience.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they show that vocabulary control is not yet consistent. Check spelling and practise natural phrases for discussing employment and future plans.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including the reason clause in “because you had not interest…” and the sentence explaining how work could help your friend save for a business. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “you had not interest” needs a different verb construction, and “This roles … help” has a mismatch between the demonstrative and plural noun. Articles and sentence patterns also need attention in phrases such as “Job is good for you” and “you need to go in customer support.” Practise accurate clause construction, agreement and articles while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
