Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Pinky,
I hope you are doing well. I got your letter that you are seeking an advice regarding attending a college or look for a job.
To begin with, as you know that I did bachelors in Govt College which was totally a wrong decision because here in our country they do not provide any practical knowledge. Nowadays practical knowledge is required to get a job in any field. Thus, pursuing a degree in the college would be time wasting for you. According to my perception you should find a job.
Nowadays, prices are going higher. To earn a bread and butter is totally hard. Moreover, If you will get a job that would be beneficial for your family. As a result, you can help your family.
To wrap up, I would say as you have a high interst in cooking, You should go in this field. Work is worship. I think you can be sucessful in this job.
Yours lovingly
Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You give a clear recommendation to get a job and address all three points: you explain that college may lack practical learning, describe the financial benefit of employment, and suggest cooking-related work. The personal example about your own college experience helps make the advice relevant. However, the reasons are not equally developed: the claim that your friend would not enjoy college is inferred from your experience rather than linked clearly to their interests, and the job advice remains general. The cooking suggestion is relevant, but naming a specific role—such as working in a restaurant kitchen or becoming a trainee chef—and explaining why it suits your friend would make the advice more fully supported. The letter is appropriate in purpose and tone overall.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening, paragraphs giving reasons to avoid college and choose work, and a closing recommendation. Connectors such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “As a result” help signal the progression. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the relationship between ideas is not always precise. For example, “Nowadays, prices are going higher” leads to the general point about earning a living, but the connection to why a job is especially suitable for Pinky could be made more explicit. The final paragraph moves quickly from cooking interest to success without developing the suggestion. Use fewer formulaic transitions and build each paragraph around a clear point, with references that connect directly to your friend’s situation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice, including “practical knowledge,” “beneficial,” and “high interest in cooking.” There are also attempts at more expressive phrases, such as “earn a bread and butter,” but this is not the natural expression in English; “earn a living” would be more appropriate. Other word-choice and spelling issues include “seeking an advice,” “time wasting,” “interst,” and “sucessful.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully. More specific vocabulary for suitable work, such as “restaurant assistant” or “trainee chef,” would also make the recommendation more useful.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause in “because here in our country they do not provide any practical knowledge” and a conditional sentence beginning “If you will get a job.” Some grammatical errors remain, though the main message is generally clear. For example, “I got your letter that you are seeking” needs a more suitable construction, and “as you know that I did bachelors” has an unnecessary “that” and an unclear article/plural form. In “If you will get a job,” use “If you get a job.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent in “If” and “You” mid-sentence. Practise accurate clause patterns, articles, and conditional forms while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
