Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sakshi,

I hope you are doing well. Its been a long time since we chat. I noticed that you are juggling on a decission and I want to guide you that choosing job position would be beneficial.

To begin with, we have spent more than 10 years together in school and I am completely aware about your abilities. Since begining you had interest in playing sports and winning all prizes shows your hardwork. Therefore, I strongly believe you will not enjoy studying academic programms in college.

However, their are various reasons for choosing employment. Firstly, you have a great leadership quality and representing your team on a bigger platform would not be a problem for you. Other than that, similar to sport job also requires team spirit and I am sure you will be best at it.

In my opinion, choosing jobs related to sports will be more relevant in your sceneario such as, yoga instructor or physical coach. You can also try sports marketting and advertisement since it is getting more popular nowadays.

I hope you will consider this letter before making a decisiion. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best regards,

Sahil Kukreja

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points and maintain a clear recommendation to seek work rather than attend college. The explanation that Sakshi may prefer sport to academic study is linked to your knowledge of her interests, and you give relevant options such as becoming a yoga instructor or physical coach. The reasons for employment—leadership and teamwork—also support your advice. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain more specifically why college would not suit her, rather than concluding mainly that she enjoys sports. You could also show how one suggested role matches her abilities or what practical benefits a job would bring. Overall, the response is relevant and supported, though some points remain general.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: an opening that states your advice, a paragraph about college, reasons to work, and suitable job suggestions, followed by an appropriate closing. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the three requested points, and transitions such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “Firstly” make the sequence clear. Some linking is a little mechanical, and “However” does not express a strong contrast with the preceding paragraph. The reference in “similar to sport job” is also not entirely clear. For smoother cohesion, connect ideas more naturally and use pronouns or repeated key terms precisely, while retaining this clear overall organisation.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for a personal advice letter, including relevant terms such as “leadership quality,” “team spirit,” “physical coach,” and “sports marketing and advertisement.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the tone is generally suitable. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “decission,” “begining,” “programms,” and “sceneario” are misspelled, while “juggling on a decision” is not a natural collocation. “Choosing job position” is also awkwardly phrased. Proofreading spelling and learning common combinations such as “weighing up a decision” and “choose a job” would make your vocabulary more accurate and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “Since…” and the sentence explaining that sports work requires team spirit. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors appear in basic patterns. For example, “Its been” needs the contraction “It’s been,” and “since we chat” should use a past-tense form such as “since we last chatted.” In “their are various reasons,” the subject pronoun should be “there.” The phrase “similar to sport job” also needs a more complete grammatical construction, such as “Like sports, a job also requires…”. Check verb tense, there/their, and articles when editing; greater accuracy across these patterns would strengthen the response.
