Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Kim,
Hey, how are you? I am writing this letter to give suggestion wheather you should study or job. I my opinion you should do a job because you will support your family.
I think you will not enjoy going to college again. The main reason is it will tough for you because all our batch compeleted studies and it difficult to make friends. Moreover, spending another years in study will restrict you to become financially independent.
On other hand, getting job will worth for you as you can learn alot new skills such as communciation, professional skills. It will give you to confidence to earn own money. Furthermore, you can get more option or chance for jobs.
As you have compeleted your study in marketing. Here are some suggestion for you . As you can get job in retail as team leader, customer service. Since you have good communication skills you can get job as receptionist.
I hope my advice will benefit you.
Best Wishes,
Harvir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points and make your recommendation clear from the opening: you think Kim should work because it would help support the family. You also give relevant reasons against college, including the difficulty of returning after the rest of the batch has graduated and the delay to financial independence, and suggest retail, customer service, and receptionist work. The advice is appropriate for a friend and the letter has a suitable closing. Some ideas, however, are only briefly stated: for example, explain more specifically why Kim would find college difficult or how the suggested roles match their marketing studies. The claim that a job offers “more option or chance for jobs” is also unclear. More development and precision would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: you introduce your advice, discuss college, explain the benefits of work, and then suggest suitable jobs. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “Since” show how ideas relate. The progression is generally clear, though some connections are mechanical or imprecise. For instance, “On other hand” needs an article, and “Furthermore, you can get more option or chance for jobs” does not clearly connect to the preceding point about learning skills. The job suggestions could also be grouped and linked more smoothly to Kim’s marketing background. Clearer transitions and more precise referencing would make the organisation feel more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main advice and include some relevant terms, such as “financially independent,” “professional skills,” “retail,” and “customer service.” The friendly tone is also suitable for writing to a friend. However, several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts of the letter less natural: “give suggestion,” “do a job,” “learn alot new skills,” and “get more option or chance for jobs.” There are also misspellings such as “wheather,” “compeleted,” and “communciation.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling, especially in key advice and job-related phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of short statements and longer sentences, including clauses with “because,” “as,” and “Since,” so there is some variety in structure. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I my opinion” is missing a word, “it will tough for you” needs a verb form, and “it difficult to make friends” lacks a subject and verb. In “It will give you to confidence to earn own money,” the sentence structure and possessive form are inaccurate. There are also issues with articles and plurals, as in “another years,” and punctuation spacing, as in “friends.Moreover.” More accurate sentence patterns and careful proofreading would help you express the ideas more smoothly.
