Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the three metals and include some relevant figures, such as nickel starting at 6% and falling to 1% by March, and copper beginning at 2%. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “the figure all three decline significantly” overlooks the late-year rises in nickel and zinc and copper’s generally modest changes. Several important movements are omitted or misreported. Nickel reaches about -3% in June before recovering, while your account says it fluctuated between April and November without describing this low point. Copper does not fall to July; it is around -0.5% in May and June, then rises. Zinc’s decline to negative values and its recovery are also not clearly reported. Select the main turning points and compare the metals more accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs, and you attempt to guide the reader with phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand.” However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow because some transitions are inaccurate or awkward, including “Following this, disparity april to nevember” and “On account of between march and june.” The final paragraph also shifts from copper to zinc without a clear separation, making the comparisons harder to track. Organise the details in a consistent sequence—such as describing each metal in turn—and use linking expressions to show actual time relationships and contrasts. Clearer referencing would also help readers understand which metal each statement concerns.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “diminished,” “constant” and “rose,” and the reader can generally identify that you are describing price changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear: “the figure all three decline,” “the only one which go in down side,” and “less number of ration.” There are also spelling errors such as “remian,” “nevember” and “rapidlyand.” Use precise terms for the direction and scale of change, and check spelling carefully. For example, distinguish a fall from a recovery, and describe a percentage change as a rate or figure rather than a “ratio.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “Whereas” and “However,” but many sentences contain errors that make relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “Overall, it clear” (missing verb), “the figure all three decline” (unclear subject and verb form), and “between march and april remain constant” (missing subject). Verb agreement and tense are also inconsistent in “the only one which go” and “it remain constant.” Several sentence fragments, such as “Moreover, between march and april remain constant accounted for 1%,” need to be rebuilt as complete clauses. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and ensure each sentence has a clear subject and finite verb; this will make your attempted complex structures more effective.
