Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarize the graph, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of the data is often confusing and lacks precision. For example, the statement 'nickel was on top position' is vague, and the claim that copper and zinc 'flipped over' is not supported by the data. Furthermore, the report lacks a clear distinction between the trends, and the interpretation of the figures (e.g., 'dropped till -4') is inaccurate based on the provided graph. The response lacks a logical selection of data points to highlight the key trends, making it difficult for the reader to follow the information presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inappropriate, such as the abrupt transition 'HEre we are seeing'. The referencing is often unclear, and the progression of ideas within paragraphs is weak. The lack of proper punctuation and capitalization throughout the text further hinders the logical flow, making the relationship between the data points difficult to discern. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively synthesize the information provided in the body paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. The student relies on basic terms like 'top position', 'rise and downfall', and 'flipped over', which do not accurately describe the trends in a graph. There are also frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'january', 'februray', 'moths') and issues with word formation. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 response. To improve, the student should focus on using more specific terminology related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'peaked'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'all these three metals stands'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures. Punctuation is inconsistent, with spaces missing after commas and periods, and capitalization is often neglected. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors. The complexity of the writing is low, and the persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation significantly detract from the overall quality of the response.
