Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Average monthly change in prices of copper, nickel and zinc (2014)
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The provided line graph illustrates the average monthly change in the value of three metals in 2014.
As an overview, variations can be observed in the price changes. While, the highest price change could be seen in Nickel.
During January, the ratio of change in price of Nickel stood at nearly 6. From this point, the proportion of change in price declined rapidly from February to June to reach bottom almost -3 and than steadily rising in August to December, amounted to approximately 1%. In contrast, the ratio of price change in terms of Copper remained constant between 2and -1%.
Furthermore, in terms of of Zinc, the percentage of price change was just over 2 in January and reach its peak in February nearly 3, than decreased rapidly between March and October from almost 2 % to -1%. In next following month, price change slightly inclined from -1% to 2% in December.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the graph, including the trends for all three metals. You provided a clear overview and supported your points with data from the graph. However, the response could be improved by ensuring more precise comparisons between the metals. For example, while you mention the trends for each, explicitly contrasting the volatility of Nickel against the relative stability of Copper would strengthen the analysis. Additionally, ensure that the data points cited are accurate; for instance, the description of Copper's movement as 'constant' is slightly inaccurate given the fluctuations shown. Overall, you have addressed the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, overview, and body paragraphs for the specific data. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast' and 'Furthermore' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor errors in cohesion, such as 'In next following month'. The transition between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of the report. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal structure of the paragraphs could be more cohesive to ensure the reader follows the data comparisons without effort.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'fluctuations', 'declined', and 'proportion'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'ratio of change' (which is better expressed as 'percentage change') and 'reach bottom' (which should be 'reached a low'). There are also minor errors like 'than' instead of 'then'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends and data, and ensure that your word choices are consistently accurate in a formal context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'While, the highest price change could be seen in Nickel' (incorrect comma usage and passive voice awkwardness) and 'in terms of of Zinc' (repetition). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct punctuation will help improve your accuracy.
