Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarize the graph, but it fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. While it identifies some data points, the description is fragmented and lacks a cohesive summary of the overall patterns. The information provided is often inaccurate or poorly expressed, such as the claim that nickel reached a low of 'minus 3%' in June, which is difficult to verify against standard graph interpretation. The response lacks a clear focus on the most significant features, such as the volatility of nickel compared to the relative stability of copper. To improve, you should focus on identifying the overall trend for each metal and highlighting the most significant peaks and troughs clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into three short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The sentences within the paragraphs often feel disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes awkward, such as 'In initial phase of 2014 year' and 'In last phase of 2014'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the three metals. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'highest', 'lowest', and 'percentage', and there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'lowest percentage reach by nickel' instead of 'lowest percentage reached by nickel'. The phrasing is often unnatural, which hinders the clarity of the report. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', and 'experienced a downward trend', and work on using these words in grammatically correct collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The graph illustrate', 'copper show'), missing articles ('in January month'), and incorrect preposition usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often marred by errors, such as 'One of most lowest percentage reach by nickel'. These errors are frequent and occasionally make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
