Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the graph, such as the trends for copper, nickel, and zinc. However, the report is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear overview of the overall trends. While you mention specific data points, the analysis is inconsistent; for example, the description of nickel's price movement is confusing and contains inaccuracies regarding the data shown in the graph. To improve, ensure that your summary clearly highlights the most significant trends (e.g., which metal showed the most volatility versus the most stability) rather than just listing individual monthly figures. A more structured approach to comparing the three metals would better satisfy the requirements for a Band 6 or higher.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression between sentences is often weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'in addition' or 'followed by'. Some transitions are abrupt, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the metals. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow of ideas within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the data points more fluidly. Strengthening these connections would significantly improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'initilal', 'fe@bruary', 'dawnwards', and 'aproxemately', which distract the reader. Additionally, word choice is sometimes awkward, such as 'costs of zinc was increment' instead of 'the cost of zinc increased'. You rely on basic descriptors and struggle to use more sophisticated terminology to describe trends, such as 'fluctuation', 'volatility', or 'plateau'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as these errors currently limit your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('costs of zinc was increment', 'copper not showed'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and the use of symbols like '@'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on mastering basic sentence structure and proofreading for common errors would be highly beneficial.
