Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all three metals and provides an overview, which is a positive step. However, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing. For example, stating that nickel 'shut at the 1%' in December is unclear, and the description of the trends lacks precision. The summary of the main features is present but lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band. The report would benefit from grouping the data more logically rather than listing each metal in isolation, which makes it difficult for the reader to identify key trends and comparisons effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. Phrases like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Furthermore' are used to list points, but they do not always create a logical flow between the data points. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the sequence of events for copper is difficult to follow due to the lack of effective transition words and clear logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'the price shut at the 1%', 'beaning at the 2%', and 'price stope at 1.7%'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the information being presented. To improve, you should focus on using more precise verbs for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'declined', or 'peaked', and ensure that you are using appropriate terminology for statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb tenses ('price remains same'), missing articles ('the price of nickel'), and incorrect word forms ('percentage is fall down'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the text from achieving a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions when describing numerical changes.
