Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides a basic summary of the graph, but it lacks a clear overview of the main trends. The description is overly focused on listing individual data points for each month rather than synthesizing the information to highlight key comparisons or significant features. For instance, the report on nickel is fragmented and repetitive, failing to group the data logically. To improve, you should identify the most significant trends—such as which metal experienced the most volatility or the overall direction of price changes—and present these in a clear overview paragraph. The current approach is too mechanical and lacks the analytical depth required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. It is written as a single block of text, which makes it difficult to follow. There is a lack of paragraphing, which is essential for organizing information in Task 1. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence' and 'After that', they are often used awkwardly or incorrectly. The progression of ideas is disjointed, as the text jumps between months and metals without a clear logical flow. To improve, you should use separate paragraphs for the introduction, the overview, and the detailed body paragraphs, and ensure that transitions between sentences are more natural and varied.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'moves downward', 'moves upward', and 'change in prices'. There are also several errors in word choice and form, such as 'The Bar chat' (should be 'chart'), 'it prices moves' (should be 'its price moves'), and 'whole the dear' (likely meant 'whole year'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends with precision. To improve, try to incorporate more varied verbs and nouns for describing data, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'a significant decline', or 'a marginal increase', and pay closer attention to basic spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'The Bar chat illustrate' and 'it prices moves'. Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after periods and run-on sentences. The range of sentence structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, you need to work on basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and pluralization. Additionally, try to incorporate more complex sentence structures, such as using subordinating conjunctions (e.g., 'while', 'although', 'whereas') to combine ideas and improve the overall sophistication of your writing.
