Student answer (Band 5.0)
The graph illustrates that the three components copper, nickel and zinc their average monthly change in prices. This graph shows us the decline in different months. We take months on the x axis and average change in prices on y axis. During the year 2001 the nickel decreases their average price in the month of January. Whether other elements decline is not so bad. This data is also beneficial for the people who invest in stocks so they make their mind well prepared and also get knowledge which stock is grows up in which year and they forecast well. Zinc makes a good profit at the end of December comparatively to other elements. In January nickel face the recession period in which they bear more decline then the other years. This type of data is Curial for decision making. It will take time to reach at the equilibrium point. The graph is also important for employees who work in corporate organization they make decisions quickly.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to adequately address the task. Instead of summarizing the main features of the graph, the text includes irrelevant commentary about stock market investors and corporate employees. Furthermore, the data interpretation is inaccurate; the student mentions the year 2001, whereas the graph clearly shows 2014. The description of trends is vague and lacks specific data points or meaningful comparisons between the three metals. To improve, you must focus strictly on the visual data provided, identify key trends such as peaks and troughs, and use the specific figures from the graph to support your summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks a logical structure. It is presented as a single block of text without clear paragraphing. While there are some attempts at linking ideas, the progression is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is minimal and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'this' to start sentences. The lack of a clear introduction, body, and conclusion makes the information difficult to follow. To improve, organize your writing into distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific details. Use a wider range of linking words like 'however', 'in contrast', and 'subsequently' to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often used incorrectly. Phrases like 'make their mind well prepared' and 'Curial for decision making' (likely meaning 'crucial') are unnatural or contain spelling errors. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for instance, 'decline' is used repeatedly without variation. There is a lack of precision in describing statistical data. To reach a higher band, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'reached a peak', and 'experienced a significant drop'. Avoid informal or irrelevant commentary that does not relate to the data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'nickel decreases their average price' and 'nickel face the recession'. Sentence structures are largely simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as 'Whether other elements decline is not so bad.' Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and using correct verb tenses. Practice writing complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions, but ensure they are grammatically sound before moving on to more advanced structures.
