Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features of the graph. The description of the data is confusing and contains significant inaccuracies, such as stating that zinc is the highest when the graph shows fluctuating trends. The attempt to summarize the monthly changes is disjointed and lacks a logical selection of key data points. The response does not effectively compare the three metals, and the overall summary is vague and fails to capture the trends of the provided data. To improve, focus on identifying the starting and ending points, the highest and lowest peaks, and any significant trends or intersections between the lines.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no paragraphing, which makes the text difficult to follow. The progression of ideas is disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is either absent or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'again'. The transition between describing the different metals is abrupt, and the lack of logical sequencing makes it hard for the reader to understand the relationship between the data points. To improve, organize the response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, a summary of main trends, and specific details, using linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to connect ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'demostrate' (spelling error), 'going downfall', 'getting nadir', and 'getting zenith'. These terms are used incorrectly in context, which hinders the clarity of the report. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends or data changes effectively. To improve, learn specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'reached a peak', or 'declined steadily'. Avoid using overly complex or poetic words like 'zenith' or 'nadir' unless they are used with precise accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The graph demostrate'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structures (e.g., 'the percentage of is from 2 to 1'). Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, making the text difficult to parse. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the basic sentences present are often flawed. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using punctuation correctly to separate distinct ideas. Practice writing simple, error-free sentences before attempting more complex structures.
