Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the graph but fails to provide a clear overview or identify the most significant trends. The description is overly focused on individual data points rather than summarizing the main features or making meaningful comparisons between the three metals. For instance, the text lists month-by-month changes for copper in a narrative style rather than grouping information logically. The lack of an analytical summary and the failure to highlight key differences or similarities between the metals mean the task is only partially addressed. To improve, you should group data by trends and provide a clear, concise overview of the main features in the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical structure. While there are paragraph breaks, the progression of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to connect long, run-on sentences. There is no clear transition between the description of copper and the other metals. The referencing is also weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of information. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'in contrast', 'subsequently', 'meanwhile') and organizing the response into clear thematic paragraphs would significantly enhance the coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'change', 'price', and 'point'. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'zink', 'nikel', 'inncrese', 'mointh', 'chganges', 'sawq') which occasionally impede readability. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for example, instead of using precise terms like 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'declined', the writer uses phrases like 'comes down' or 'start to inncrese'. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary related to data description and ensure accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'its start to coming down'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on, lacking proper punctuation, which makes the text difficult to parse. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the simple sentences used often contain errors in word order or preposition usage. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and using punctuation to separate distinct ideas.
