Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the graph but fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the data. The description of the trends is often confusing and inaccurate; for example, describing nickel demand as 'more than others' is not supported by the graph, which shows price changes. The summary is incomplete, as the final sentence is cut off. Key features, such as the specific peaks and troughs, are mentioned but lack precision, and the comparison between the three metals is underdeveloped. To improve, ensure you identify the most significant trends and provide a clear, concise overview of the main features without including personal interpretations or inaccurate data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the progression of ideas is disjointed. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'whereas' and 'shifting towards', but they are often applied incorrectly or in a way that does not improve the flow of information. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which metal is being discussed. The final paragraph is incomplete, which significantly impacts the overall coherence of the response. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would greatly enhance the readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'represnt' instead of 'represents', 'zink' instead of 'zinc', and 'rice' instead of 'rise'. The vocabulary used to describe trends is repetitive and lacks the precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained constant', or 'reached a peak'. Additionally, proofreading for basic spelling errors is essential to ensure your meaning is clearly communicated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the prices was reduced'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack the necessary complexity to demonstrate a good range of grammar. For instance, 'In month of January in 2014 it started from 6%' is grammatically weak. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct article usage and verb tenses. Practicing the use of complex sentences, such as using relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions, will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical structures.
