Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the graph but fails to accurately report the data. The description of trends is often confusing or factually incorrect based on the provided graph (e.g., stating nickel was at its highest in January when the graph shows it starting near zero). The overview is vague and does not clearly highlight the main features or significant differences between the three metals. Key data points are missing or misidentified, making it difficult for the reader to visualize the graph. To improve, you must focus on accurately identifying the starting, ending, and peak points for each line and ensure your summary reflects the actual data presented rather than general observations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently interrupted by unclear phrasing and poor sentence structure. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'In january', but they are often applied mechanically or incorrectly, which hinders the flow of information. The referencing is sometimes ambiguous, making it difficult to follow which metal is being discussed at certain points. To reach a higher band, focus on using transition words more naturally and ensuring that each sentence clearly connects to the previous one to build a coherent narrative.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'increase', 'fall', and 'lowest'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'cooper' instead of 'copper' and 'whille' instead of 'while'. Additionally, word choice is often imprecise, such as using 'ion' instead of 'at' or 'in'. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic topic, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher score. You should aim to incorporate more descriptive verbs and adverbs to characterize the trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', or 'remained stable'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'nickel was increase'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty or fragmented. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that verbs are correctly conjugated, and proofreading for common errors like missing prepositions and incorrect word forms. Developing a better grasp of complex sentence structures will also help improve your score.
