Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the graph but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. While it identifies the three metals, the description of the trends is often confusing and factually inconsistent with the provided graph. For example, stating that nickel was at its 'highest price' in January is misleading, as the graph shows percentage change, not absolute price. Furthermore, the description of the trends is fragmented and lacks a logical selection of key features. The summary of the data is imprecise, and the lack of clarity regarding the units (percentage change) makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trends. To improve, focus on identifying the starting points, the most significant peaks and troughs, and the final values for each metal.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical or misused, such as 'To begin with' and 'In january zinc was ion lowest'. The progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the three metals. Referencing is often unclear, and the transition between sentences is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'conversely', 'meanwhile', 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping metals by similar trends or contrasting their movements over the year.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'increase', 'fall', and 'lowest'. There are several spelling errors, such as 'cooper' instead of 'copper' and 'whille' instead of 'while'. The word choice is often imprecise, such as 'suddenly declined on lowest' or 'it will on -3'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal decline', and ensure accurate spelling of key terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. There are issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'nickel was increase'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'reach at lowest'). Sentence structures are mostly simple and often contain errors in word order, such as 'it will on -3'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and punctuation is inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and using correct tense forms when describing past data. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms is essential.
