Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features of the graph, such as the starting points and the end-of-year rankings. However, the analysis is superficial and lacks precision. For example, describing the price of Nickel as 'on higest of all time' is inaccurate as the graph only covers one year. Furthermore, the description of the trends is somewhat confusing, particularly the reference to 'minus 3' without clearly explaining the context of the price change. While the main trends are mentioned, the comparison between the three metals is not fully developed, and the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the overall trends, which is essential for a high-scoring Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'By the following this chart' and 'As, we were saw on chart'. The transition between sentences is frequently abrupt, making the progression of the report difficult to follow. Referencing is also inconsistent, and the repetition of phrases like 'on top' and 'on second' hinders the logical flow. To improve, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic structures like 'on top', 'on second', and 'on third'. There are several instances of awkward word choices and incorrect collocations, such as 'gradually increased' (when the graph shows a sharp change) and 'the metal named by Nickel'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately; for instance, instead of 'good progress', you should use terms like 'upward trend' or 'significant growth'. The errors in word choice occasionally make the meaning unclear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('the Copper', 'the Zinc'), verb tense consistency ('we were saw'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as 'As, the month of February started the price of Nickel decreased'. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To reach a higher band, you need to demonstrate control over complex sentence structures and improve your accuracy with basic grammar rules, particularly subject-verb agreement and prepositional phrases.
