Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the trends for copper, nickel, and zinc; however, it fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the main features effectively. The description is largely a list of month-by-month fluctuations, which makes it difficult for the reader to identify the overall trends. Furthermore, the data interpretation is often confusing, such as the reference to 'the last five year' which is not supported by the graph provided. To improve, you should group the data into logical trends (e.g., periods of growth vs. decline) rather than listing every monthly change, and ensure your summary accurately reflects the provided data points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks paragraphing, which is essential for organizing information in an IELTS Task 1 report. The text is presented as a single, dense block, making it difficult to follow. There is a lack of cohesive devices; the sentences are strung together with repetitive use of 'and' or 'then', which creates a mechanical flow. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks—one for the introduction/overview and one or two for the detailed body paragraphs—and incorporate a wider range of linking words such as 'in contrast', 'subsequently', or 'meanwhile' to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'ratio' incorrectly to describe price changes, and phrases like 'the same situation of copper' are unnatural. There is also a lack of precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'. Many of the word choices are imprecise, which hinders the clarity of your report. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a steady decline', 'a sharp increase', or 'remained relatively constant', and avoid using generic terms like 'ratio' when referring to price percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are persistent issues with sentence structure, such as 'This graph is shows to the average', which is grammatically incorrect. Subject-verb agreement is often ignored, and there is a lack of complex sentence structures. Punctuation is also problematic, as the entire response is essentially one long, run-on sentence. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction: ensure every sentence has a clear subject and verb, avoid unnecessary words like 'to' after 'shows', and practice using full stops to separate distinct ideas rather than relying on conjunctions.
