Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers all three metals and attempts to describe the trends. However, the analysis is significantly hampered by inaccurate reporting of the data. For example, the student describes Nickel as having the 'highest price' at 6%, but the graph shows percentage changes, not absolute prices. Furthermore, the description of the trends is often confusing or contradictory, such as stating a price 'drastically grow' while the graph shows a decline. The overview is also factually incorrect based on the provided graph, as it claims Zinc was higher than the others, which is not supported by the data. The response fails to clearly highlight the main features or make accurate comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'To commence with', 'Therefore', and 'In additionally'. These transitions do not always reflect the logical relationship between the sentences. The referencing is also unclear; for instance, the phrase 'among two metals' is grammatically incorrect and confusing when discussing three items. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the description of the trends jumps between months without a clear chronological or thematic structure, making the overall arrangement feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'distinction monthly alter' instead of 'monthly change', 'drastically grow' instead of 'grew drastically', and 'consist extremely break down'. The student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing trends, often relying on basic or incorrect phrasing. The spelling of 'Zink' (Zinc) is also inconsistent. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the Copper in January price was at 2%'), incorrect verb tenses ('this price was remain unchanged'), and awkward sentence structures ('it was highest price than two metals price'). Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent capitalisation and missing commas. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. The majority of sentences contain errors, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly limits the quality of the writing.
