Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully address the task. While you attempt to describe the graph, the response is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. You have identified some data points for copper and nickel, but you have not provided a comprehensive summary or made sufficient comparisons between the three metals. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt, including an overview of the main trends and a detailed comparison of the data, while ensuring the response is of sufficient length to allow for full development of ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs are disjointed and the writing is incomplete. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'The graph also shows'. The introduction is poorly structured, and the lack of a conclusion or a completed body paragraph makes it difficult to follow the flow of information. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'however', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and logical development.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple phrasing such as 'The graph illustrates' and 'The value of'. There are also issues with word choice and terminology, such as 'information of average prices' instead of 'average price data'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend', rather than simply stating the numerical values.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with article usage ('in year 2014' should be 'in the year 2014'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. The sentence 'The over review is that , graph shows change in compared to the previous different months' is poorly constructed and contains unnecessary punctuation. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and then work on incorporating complex structures like relative clauses or passive voice to describe the data more effectively.
