Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the graph, identifying the three metals and describing their general trends. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, cohesive overview. While you mention that the prices fluctuate, you do not effectively highlight the key differences or significant points of intersection between the metals. The description of the data is often repetitive, and some figures are described in a way that is difficult to follow. To improve, ensure you group information logically rather than listing the movement of each metal in isolation, and provide a more analytical summary of the overall trends observed throughout the year.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'furthermore' and 'moreover'. The transition between sentences is frequently abrupt, making the progression of ideas feel disjointed. For example, the second paragraph is a list of items rather than a cohesive summary. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data logically.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'spacfic', 'peroid', 'cpper', 'reapdly', 'fabuary', and 'blanced'. You rely on basic verbs like 'start', 'reached', and 'decreased' throughout the text. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or precise terminology related to data description. To improve, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated synonyms for describing trends, such as 'plummeted', 'fluctuated', 'stabilized', or 'marginal', and pay closer attention to spelling accuracy to ensure your writing remains professional and easy to read.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The prices of these metals is fluctuate', 'The price of zinc is start') and tense usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'Its price start from 6% and decline reapdly'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly regarding the use of commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and proofreading your work to eliminate basic errors in tense and word order.
