Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to describe the trends, but it fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the main features effectively. The description of the data is often confusing and inaccurate; for instance, the text claims to describe nickel but then discusses copper, and the chronological sequencing is difficult to follow. The report lacks a clear comparison between the three metals, which is a requirement of the task. Furthermore, the information provided does not accurately reflect the visual data in the graph, leading to a failure to present a clear summary of the main trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks logical organization. While there are paragraph breaks, the progression of ideas is disjointed and confusing. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as 'First of all we will talk about' and 'Secondly', which are inappropriate for an academic report. The referencing is also unclear, as the writer frequently confuses the subjects (nickel vs. copper). The lack of a clear structure makes it difficult for the reader to follow the information presented.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'increases', 'decrease', and 'rising'. There are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'drope' instead of 'drop' and 'summerise' instead of 'summarise'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe trends accurately or with any degree of sophistication. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to data description, which limits the clarity of the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the price were increases'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack proper punctuation, making them difficult to parse. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple, error-prone sentences. The lack of control over basic grammar significantly affects the readability of the text.
