Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to cover the main features of the graph, including an overview and some specific data points for copper, nickel, and zinc. However, there are significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For example, the student states that nickel reached its lowest price at the end, but the graph shows nickel actually rebounded slightly in November and December. Additionally, the description of copper and zinc contains inaccurate figures and vague references (e.g., stating copper decreased by one percent at the end, which does not accurately reflect the upward tick to 1.5%). While an overview is attempted, the support is flawed by misread data and under-developed comparisons, placing this performance within Band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, including an introductory sentence and body paragraphs introduced by phrases like 'To commence' and 'Going into the depth'. However, the logical progression is hindered by poor paragraphing and clunky transitions. Sentences are often joined with comma splices or weak cohesive ties (e.g., 'while, during the period', 'in the start of the the in the start'). Paragraphing is disjointed, with body information crammed inappropriately or lacking clear thematic separation. Referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the relationships between data points. This corresponds to Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple terms like 'price', 'increase', 'decrease', and 'variation'. There are frequent word choice and spelling errors (e.g., 'illustrate' instead of 'illustrates', 'droped', 'unchaged', 'sligtly', 'strat', 'fluctustion'). Less common lexical items are attempted but generally misused or misspelled. While meaning is usually conveyed despite the errors, the range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, fitting the Band 5 criteria.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on run-on simple sentences linked incorrectly with commas. Attempts at complex or compound structures often result in grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'the percentage of price of nickel decreasing continuously and in the end it reached into lowest price.' Errors in tense, preposition usage ('reached to', 'in the start'), and subject-verb agreement ('line graph illustrate') are frequent and occasionally impede readability. This aligns with a Band 5 score.
